With the one minute movie Vla I want to investigate the experience of filmic temporality and the experiences of duration. By focussing on an absolutely ordinary action, zooming in and staying still we notice qualities that normally remain unnoticed. The subject becomes abstract and takes on an aesthetic quality.
Vla slows us down, demands awareness as an alternative to the scrolling stream of moving images we are confronted with on (social) media. With this movie I’m playing with the idea of "purpose" in a film scene, in life.

Gé-Karel van der Sterren
Gé-Karel van der Sterren (1969, Stadskanaal) is een Nederlandse schilder. Voornaamste thema’s in zijn werk zijn de consumptiedrang en het hedonisme van de geglobaliseerde hedendaagse maatschappij, vaak dik geschilderd in heldere kleuren. Werk van Gé-Karel is opgenomen in collecties van diverse musea, zoals het Gemeentemuseum in Den Haag en het Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam en in diverse privé- en bedrijfscollecties.
